Engine & drive

The FSI B31-980 uses a Kohler ECH749 V-Twin petrol engine producing around 26.5 hp (19.8 kW). Because this engine provides strong torque and reliable output, it supports demanding stump grinding work throughout the day.

Unlike many stump grinders, the FSI B31-980 uses a fully hydraulic cutter wheel drive rather than traditional belts. As a result, daily belt adjustments are eliminated and overall maintenance requirements are reduced.

The machine also features counter-rotating hydraulic tracks, which allow precise movement and excellent traction on uneven terrain. Consequently, operators can position the grinder accurately when working in gardens, woodland areas, and restricted-access sites.

Cutting head

The FSI B31-980 uses a 467 mm cutting wheel equipped with eight FSI 25 cutting teeth. These hardened teeth are designed for durability and efficient chip removal.

Hydraulic cylinders control the cutter arm sweep movement. Therefore, the machine can grind across a wide working area without constant repositioning.

The cutting system provides a working envelope reaching approximately 68 cm above ground level and about 40 cm below ground level. As a result, operators can remove stumps thoroughly while also tackling deeper root systems.

The FSI B31-980 is built on a compact tracked chassis designed for professional arborist work. With a width of approximately 98 cm, the machine remains narrow enough for many access points while still providing increased stability compared with smaller models.
